Wine and Food Tour
DAY 1 ALGHERO
Meeting with ourrepresentative at chosen port/airport. Departure in luxury coach for Alghero. Farm-house lunch. Afternoon visit to town of Catalana, free time for shopping. Arrival at hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 2 MAMMOIADA / ORGOSOLO / ARBATAX
Breakfastin hotel. Departure for Mamoiada, visit to the Maschera Museum housing the famous Mamutones Mask. On to Orgosolo to see the “Murales”. Lunch in the mountains with the shepherds. In the evening on to Tortoli-Arbatax with a visit to the splendid “Red Rocks”. Accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 3 JERTZU / ULASSAI / CAGLIARI
Breakfast in hotel.Departure to visit the Jertzu Wine Company vinyard in Ogliastra, the best known in the whole of Sardinia for the production of Cannonau wine. On to Ulassai, and (optional) visit to the “Su Marmuri” Grotto, the largest, most imposing in Sardinia, more than a kilometre in length! Tipical Sardinian lunch served in a rustic mountain farmhouse. Departure for Cagliari on the road which winds along the Eastern coast through a sequence of ever changing scenic splendours. Evening arrival at hotel, accommodation in reserved rooms, dinner and overnight.
DAY 4 NORA / PULA / CAGLIARI
Breakfast in hotel.Departure for Nora. Guided tour of the magnificent lagoon, stopping place for many species of birds. and site of the recovery center for sea turtles and whales. On to the guided visit of the Punic-roman archeological site Torre del Coltellazzo, and the church of Sant’Efisio. Farmhouse Lunch serving local produce. Afternoon visit to the splendid beaches of Santa Margherita, and marvelous dunes of Chia. On to Pula and a visit to the Archeological Museum housing the remains discovered at Nora. Evening return to Cagliari, stopping at Assemini to visit the artistic ceramic craft shops and see the artisans at work. Arrival and visit to Cagliari and the workshops making small nuragic artisan bronzes. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 SANTADI / CARLOFORTE / S. ANTIOCO / CAGLIARI
Breakfast in hotel.Departure for Santadi, important agricultural zone, visit to Civic Archeological Museum and the well-known wine growers Cooperative,which produces the famous Carignano del Sulcis, for a wine tasting. On to Portovesme where the ferry proceeds to Carloforte, founded by a colony of fisherman from Tabarka, famous for its tuna fisheries and the production of mullet roe. Tipical local lunch featuring tuna. Visit to the quaint old town with stroll in the enchanting little Port. Dearture for Sant’Antioco and visit to old Sulcis founded by Phoenicians in the 8th century. Evening return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 6 MORGONGIORI / ALES / PAU / SARDARA
Breakfast in hotel anddeparture for Morgongiori with visit to the artisan workshop producing the inimitabile pasta called “Lorighittas”, known throughout Europe, the highest expression of the Morgongiori culinary tradition. On to the living Museum of the Weaver’s art where precious carpets of outstanding beauty are kept, and to the Ecological Document Centre where a guide will explain the geology, the legenda, the flora and fauna of Mount Arci. Departure for Ales, visit to the Traditional Sardinian Toy Museum and the beautiful Cathedral of San Pietro e Paolo Dating from 1100, riconstructed by the Genoan master builder Domenico Sportono. Visit to the torrone shop and description of the ancient working method still today using the original recipe. On to Pau to visit the obsidian Museum and its workshop for a brief observation of the working of this valuable mineral; the artisans explain what obsidian is, its characteristics, why it is important and show how it was worked and used by prehistoric man, and how it is worked today with a display in which to admire the products of this magic stone. Farmhoouse lunch. Afternoon visit to a farm. On to Sardara, arrival and meeting with guide who will describe the origin of the town and its legenda on a walk through the streets of the old town to the Romanesque Gothic Church of San Gregorio. Evening return to hotel, dinner and Overnight.
DAY 7 CAGLIARI
Breakfast in hotel. Departure for chosen port/airport. End of our tour.
